The Winners

Fourth Annual Westchase Cup Won by Village Green

The Westchase Community Foundation (WCF) held its Forth Annual Westchase Cup Golf Tournament and Family Festival on Saturday April 7th, at the Eagles Golf Club. The foundation raises money to assist families of seriously ill children in the community.

This year, 13 Westchase villages with more than 100 golfers competed for the most treasured “Westchase Cup.”  The villages of Kingsford and Harbor Links have held the cup and its bragging rights in the past. WCF would like to congratulate this years winning team from Village Green! Their team included John Kromer, Carlton Scott, Rusty Stocker (also the winner of the longest drive contest) and Tony Umholtz. The actual cup will continue to tour the community and be displayed in various supporting businesses throughout the year. WCF members suspect it will find a prominent spot in Bay West Reality for a good portion of this year.

The WCF rose over $20,000 and would like to thank all of our participants, sponsors and volunteers for making it such a success.  While the list of sponsors is too long to thank in this article, special recognition goes out to Carmanuche's Cuccina Italiano for donating lunch, Mat the Brat from 93.3 WFLZ for providing music and activities for the kids including arranging a special visit by Austin Powers and one of Tampa Bay's best bands, Downtown Possum, the for late day music and dancing. . Also, special thanks to the Eagles Golf Club for helping us to make our day "a golf tournament like no other" and all of our volunteers including the staff of Fifth Third Bank.

Our major sponsors included Bay West Realty, Laser Locators, Miller Brewing, CDE Development Group, Fifth Third Bank, Smith Barney, Sykes Enterprises, Allure Med Spa, Coldwell Banker and Met Life. The day was also supported by over 30 hole sponsors and over 40 raffle donations by area businesses.

The real winners of the day were the children who took part in the Family Festival which included bounce houses, swimming, an Easter egg hunt, putting contests, games and prizes as well as dancing with Mat the Brat and Austin Powers. Over 80 kids of all ages joined in the fun.

As part of the WCF tradition two new members were inducted into the WCF Hall of Fame. Donna Caputo and Angela Hartle were honored for their countless hours of volunteer work for the foundation. Donna and Angela have supported the foundation over the years and have been invaluable to its success.

Events such as this allow the foundation to be in a position to carry out its mission of providing financial support to families of seriously ill children within our community. The foundation has distributed over $20,000 of assistance to our neighbors "families helping families". While it is not the policy of the foundation's board to solicit families, any resident can nominate a family that would benefit from such assistance. For more information, please go to www.westchasefoundation.org to learn more and/or download a grant request. The foundation is grateful of the support it receives from the community and is looking forward to its next event in the fall and Santa’s Pre-Flight parade on December 8th.
